The short version
SkillHarbour helps people connect a career goal with their current skills, useful learning and relevant Australian jobs. To do that well, we need information about where you are now and where you want to go. We use that information to run the service and personalise it for you. We do not sell your personal information.
SkillHarbour does not make hiring, enrolment, funding or immigration decisions. You decide what to add to your profile and whether to make any part of your Skill Passport public.
Information we collect
The information we hold depends on the parts of SkillHarbour you use. It may include:
- your name, email address, sign-in details and account preferences;
- your location, work rights and work preferences where you choose to provide them;
- your career goal, interests, skills, work experience, education and languages;
- resumes, certificates and other evidence you upload, plus information extracted from those files for you to review;
- courses you save, start or finish, roadmap progress, assessments and Skill Passport settings;
- jobs you view or save, job alerts, applications you choose to record and match results;
- subscription status, billing interval and payment events. Stripe handles complete card details; SkillHarbour does not store your full card number;
- messages and feedback you send us, including information you enter into assisted career features; and
- basic technical and usage information such as browser type, device information, pages visited, errors, security events and approximate network information.
We also use public or licensed information about courses, providers, occupations, employers and jobs. That catalogue information is not usually personal information about you.
Why we use it
We use information where it is reasonably necessary to:
- create and secure your account;
- suggest careers, identify skill gaps, build roadmaps and rank courses or jobs against the goal and skills you give us;
- track learning, evidence, assessments and Skill Passport progress;
- save your choices and send notifications or job alerts you have requested;
- provide subscriptions, process billing events and prevent payment fraud;
- answer support requests, investigate problems and improve reliability;
- understand broad, privacy-conscious patterns in how the service is used; and
- meet legal obligations and protect people, SkillHarbour and the service from misuse.
Some recommendations are produced automatically from your chosen goal, mapped skills and catalogue data. Assisted features may also use artificial intelligence to organise resume information or explain options. These outputs are guidance, not decisions about you. Check the result and correct anything that is wrong before relying on it.
When information is shared
We share only what is needed to provide and protect SkillHarbour. Service providers may include hosting and database services such as Supabase, payment services such as Stripe, email and monitoring services, and technology providers used for assisted resume or career features. They may process information on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
Course, job and employer pages may send you to another organisation's website. If you apply, enrol or provide details there, that organisation's privacy policy applies. We do not give an employer access to your private profile merely because you view or save its job.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, to respond to a lawful request, to protect safety or rights, or as part of a genuine business transfer with appropriate safeguards. We do not trade personal profiles or sell them to advertisers or recruiters.
Your public Skill Passport
Your Skill Passport is private unless you switch on public sharing. You choose which available fields to show and receive a shareable link. Anyone with that link may be able to view, copy or pass on the information you made public. Turn sharing off if you no longer want the page available, but remember that someone may already have saved a copy.
Do not upload another person's private information or place identity documents, financial details or other unnecessary sensitive information in a public field.
Storage, overseas processing and security
Online services often use providers and infrastructure in more than one country. This means your information may be stored or processed outside Australia, including where our hosting, payment, communications or AI service providers operate. Privacy protections in another country may differ from Australian law.
We use access controls, private storage for resumes and evidence, encrypted connections, role-based staff access and monitoring intended to protect your information. No online service can promise perfect security. Use a strong, unique password and tell us promptly if you think someone has accessed your account.
How long we keep information
We keep account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards where needed for recovery, security, disputes, financial records or legal obligations. Different records have different needs: payment and audit records may be kept longer than routine usage information. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably required, subject to backups and lawful retention duties.
Cookies, messages and your choices
SkillHarbour uses browser storage, cookies or similar technology where needed to keep you signed in, remember choices, protect sessions and understand service performance. You can block some of these in your browser, but essential account features may stop working.
You can change notification and alert preferences in your account. Service messages about security, billing or important account changes may still be sent when necessary. You can also correct much of your profile yourself, stop public Skill Passport sharing, remove uploaded evidence where the feature allows, or ask for help with access, correction or deletion.
Access, correction, deletion and complaints
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, ask us to delete information where the law permits, or withdraw an optional consent. We may need to verify your identity first. Some information cannot be removed immediately where we must keep it for legal, security, payment or dispute reasons.
Use the support contact made available in your signed-in account for a privacy request or complaint. Explain what happened and what outcome you are seeking. We will consider it fairly and respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children and changes to this policy
SkillHarbour is designed for people making their own career and learning choices. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian before uploading a resume, certificate or other personal document, or purchasing a subscription.
We may update this policy as SkillHarbour changes or the law develops. We will publish the new date here and give additional notice where a change materially affects how we handle your information. You can also read our Terms and Conditions.
